High quality visual arts programming tailor-made for your school community
Our Approach
Scribble Art Workshop is a developmentally-based art program for children as young as eighteen months to adults. We seek to build creativity as a life skill that will serve our students beyond the art studio. Our job is to bring the materials and methods that help students tap back into a primal maker self, a joyful artist who believes they know how to make a thing of beauty.
Why choose us?
-
We are an organization focused on the development of our students AND our teachers.
We know that a successful class stems from engaging content and even more importantly, a teacher’s ability to deliver that content in a way that challenges and excites their students. We also understand the importance of teaching artists having the classroom management skills to maintain emotionally and physically safe spaces where students can explore their work in a controlled setting.
Our teachers receive initial training (including observations of master teachers, practicums to develop their skills and group discussions) before they go out into the field and are observed and coached consistently throughout their tenure with Scribble.
Your Scribble teaching artist will bring with them extensive training and a growth mindset committed to refining their instruction to best suit the needs of your students.
-
Our curriculum is developmentally based and aligned with NYS Standards for the Arts and the National Core Standards.
Each year, our curriculum team works together to develop NEW engaging projects that are developmentally appropriate for the various age groups we serve. We also continuously improve our thousands of existing projects based on teacher feedback.
-
We are a NYC DOE vendor, MWBE state and city certified, and have worked with dozens of schools both in and around NYC for the past 10 years.
That means it’s easy to purchase from us, and you can feel confident that you’ll be receiving top-notch programming.
-
Your students deserve an authentic art-making experience and this includes using the finest art materials we can get our hands on.
In addition to our time-tested supplies that we’ve used since our inception in 2011, our teachers test out different materials before we finalize new curriculum to make sure we’re exposing our artists to the tools that will inspire and enable them to create their best work.

How can we use visual literacy activities to support our students’ ability to talk and think about their artistic process before the art-making even begins? This session will focus on developing your students’ observational skills and descriptive language during the mini lesson and the art-making process. We'll create mixed media collages with both abstract and representational imagery!
-
How do we encourage divergent thinking practices during an art-making activity? This session will focus on modeling a successful art project for teachers so that they can develop and facilitate similar endeavors in their early childhood classrooms to develop creative thinking skills and strategies. We'll make our own paintbrushes out of found materials and then use them to create beautiful abstract watercolor paintings.
-
How can we “teach” our students to talk about what they’ve made after they’ve finished their project? This session will focus on how to facilitate a mini art show where students can look and talk about their artwork and the work of others. We'll create either self portrait or abstract drawings (depending on the age we're targeting for the PD) using both dry and wet materials.
-
How do we teach our students to engage in art-making in the same way they conduct a science experiment? An essential aspect of art-making is experimentation but it’s equally important for students to be able to critically analyze the results of their “tests” and use this analysis to inform their process. We’ll make mono-prints using found and created printing plates as stamps.
-
How do we teach our students to deeply investigate the materials they're using and the artwork they’re creating? An essential aspect of art-making is being able to observe, make predictions and judgements about what tools or materials can do for their work. We’ll make mixed media sculptures using paper, clay, wire and found objects; discussing the possibilities and limitations of each material as we work.

I’m done with “I’m done”! We can all benefit from a larger tool kit of strategies to expand our students’ attention span and more importantly, make them more intentional about the way in which they work. We'll work on a drawing and painting project that models how to extend attention with simple materials.
-
Depending on how many grades and classes you teach, it helps to limit the number of different projects you’re teaching at one time and focus instead, on how to differentiate a couple of projects across various age groups. We’ll practice adjusting the goals, objectives & materials of ONE painting project for various ages based on artistic developmental levels.
-
Grades in art? Why not?!? Art assessment does not have to be an oxymoron. On the contrary, it can help to keep students engaged and focused on achieving their creative goals. We’ll explore in-formal, formal, in-progress & end-of-project assessments that are both teacher & student-led. We'll complete and assess our own painted paper sculptures.
-
Developing teachers should always question their questioning. We’ll discuss how to incorporate higher order questioning and divergent thinking into your mini lessons so that you’ll have more participation and wide diversity of responses and artwork. We'll explore how students can make incredibly diverse compositional choices within a collage project.
-
If engagement is the key to management than designing lessons that are developmentally appropriate is the key to engagement. We’ll investigate how lessons can be designed to fall within the zone of proximal development. We'll create drawing projects that highlight developmental differences and model how to push students to create high quality work.
Family Engagement
Foster your school community through a creative activity designed to connect with students and parents.
The arts offer uniquely valuable ways to bring families into your school to engage with their educational community in meaningful and authentic activities. Scribble is proud to have a multitude of experience in working with families, and we offer a variety of parent engagement activities as add-ons to our teaching artist residencies.
Family engagement activity options:
-
Scribble has always had art exhibits built into our educational model. An essential part of being an artist (at any age!) is sharing your work with the world in a public setting. Scribble curates student art shows in a way that honors the high quality of the work and celebrates the unique qualities of each piece for families.
Included in all residencies that are 3+ classes/week and run at least 12 weeks
-
Starting at 18 months, we offer early childhood artists classes with their caregivers. Adding a weekend or after-school class to your residency, where families can join your students in collaborative art-making, is a great way for them to learn how to foster creativity at home and to have a sneak peek of what goes on in the classroom.

Volume Pricing: $250/class when you book 3 or more classes back-to-back

For this workshop, parents will engage in discussions about their children's artistic development and how to support creativity through conversations about their finished artwork and consistent exposure to materials. After our discussion, we'll create our own unique pieces of artwork to reinforce what we've learned. We'll provide art activities and an art teacher (creative childcare) for your students in a separate space so parents can focus and get creative!
