We're Opening a New Location in Kent, CT!
Scribble Art Workshop, a developmentally-based art studio for children as young as eighteen months to adults, is opening a second location in Kent, Conn. The newest space is located at the Kent Green Shopping Center, in a building adjacent to Cozzy’s Pizza.
“Our mission is to build creativity as a life skill that will serve our students beyond the art classroom,” said founder and owner Sasha Schwartz. “It's always been a dream of mine to have a studio within my own community, a place my family and friends can enjoy making art together,” Schwartz continued, adding that she lives a short 15-minute drive from Kent in nearby Wingdale, NY.
Schwartz has been immersed in the art world since her days as an art teacher in Manhattan in the early 2000’s. An entrepreneur at heart, she had a desire to offer art classes outside of the school setting to a wider audience, and rented out space at a yoga studio where she hosted workshops. “Those classes very quickly grew in demand until I needed to hire teachers and train them,” Schwartz recalled.
Her successful art classes grew into her first studio space, and Scribble Art workshop was established in 2011. Kent is Scribble Art Workshop’s second studio location; they currently have a Westchester studio in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. and offer classes in New York City as well.
“Kent is ripe for art-making,” Schwartz explained. “While it is jammed packed with galleries where people can look at and enjoy art from a distance, there isn't really a central location where people can get messy and engage in art-making together.” Her goal is for Kent’s Scribble Art studio space to be a destination for families and friends to create artwork together in addition to being a community hub that offers classes, workshops, school break camps and hosts celebrations, like birthday parties, as well.
Schwartz is thrilled to be opening a location in downtown Kent and is now in the process of building out a carefully curated studio. “This will be our biggest space by far, with a lot of storage for our supplies.” she explained. “And the fact that we’re located in the center of town where we can easily walk outdoors to be inspired by and create in nature is phenomenal. Plus, we’ll be right next door to a sculpture museum,” she said, referencing Billy Morrison’s new art gallery currently under construction.
So, what type of art classes does Schwartz and her new team of Kent teachers plan to offer? “We'll be offering classes for all age groups, including adults,” she said. Offerings will include:
Miniscribblers, where toddlers ages 18 months through three years and their parents can explore art experientially with developmentally appropriate art tools and activities.
Sensory Open Play, where toddlers ages 18 months through three years and their parents can freely pour, squish, collect and sort in the messy world of the scribble studio with other artists their age.
Pre-School Art School, where parents can drop off their 3- and 4-year-olds for self-directed sensory play and art making.
Printmaking, where children in kindergarten through fifth grades can explore the elements of color, line, and texture through a variety of traditional and nontraditional printing methods after school.
Toy Design, where children in kindergarten through fifth grades can explore the intersection of functional design and imaginative art-making through sculpture, painting, and collage techniques.
Sculpture, where children in kindergarten through fifth grades can foster their innate interest in building by exploring all types of building with a variety of materials and methods.
School Break Camps where students can spend time being creative when school is out with classes that include dollhouse design/architecture, fashion design, painting, printmaking and sculpture. (The first one is coming up in February!)
They’ll also be available to host private birthday parties, and will be offering Drop & Dine evenings, where parents can drop off their children for a night of art fun while they go out for some much-needed one-on-one time together, sans kids.
Kent’s Scribble Art Workshop location is slated to open mid-February. “To celebrate, we’ll be hosting free Miniscribblers and Open House Art Making classes in addition to a Valentine’s Day Workshop,” Schwartz added. (Click links to learn more and register your child!)
“My team and I are so excited to offer our art classes to Kent and the wider Litchfield County and Dutchess County communities. Our hope is that by bringing the materials and methods that help people tap back into their primal instinct to create, they will see themselves as joyful artists who believe they know how to make a thing of beauty” Schwartz concluded.
