Scribbler Summer Camp Grades K-4
Scribbler Summer Camp in our Dobbs Ferry studio includes daily walks on the Aqueduct trail, collaborative outdoor earthworks, open play, lunch at the local playground, and of course, tons of art-making in the studio! Every Friday, we'll be creating a special exhibition of our artwork or going on a local field trip. A healthy snack is provided. You send a bagged lunch or you can get lunch from Mix on Main for $7/day (panini and a smoothie). We are nut-free!
Week 1 (July 22nd-26th) Go Big or Go Home: If your artists dream big, then this week is for them! We’ll begin by creating GIANT mandala collagraph prints. Then we’ll work on drawing and painting HUGE maps of our community. Last, we’ll make an ENORMOUS abstract painting. See an underlying theme here? Bigger is better this week at Scribble camp!
Week 2 (July 29th-August 2nd) Selfies: Me, me, me… we’ll be embracing the egocentrism of childhood in this week of selfies at Scribble camp! We’ll start with large-scale self-portrait paintings. Then, we’ll move on to building ourselves in 3-dimensional found object sculptures. We’ll end the week with our faces as the canvas: think face paint (all-natural), modeling, and photography!
Week 3 (August 5th-9th) Amazing Abstraction: Abstraction is not always easy. It’s a challenge to focus on non-representational images and highlight the simple (but most important!) elements of art: shape, line, and color. But at Scribble, this challenge is where so much creativity is fueled. We’ll be making shape & line paintings, creating a block print series, and building a wood sculpture.
Week 4 (August 12th-16th) The Great ARTdoors: This week at camp we’ll bring the outdoors in...to the studio, that is! Nature is such an important inspirational and practical part of art-making and this week, we’ll be exploring just how we can infuse the outdoors into our indoors. We’ll start the week with a natural found object print, then we’ll move on to building a found object sculpture. We’ll end our week painting en plein air! ALMOST FULL!
Week 5 (August 19th-23rd) Fabulous Fibers: When we think art materials, our minds immediately go to drawing, painting, printmaking and maybe even sculpture! But what about fibers? What about fabrics? This week of camp, we’ll embrace the world of fabulous fibers by making handmade paper using recycled paper pulp, embroidering an abstract line “drawing,” and painting with felt.
Week 6 (August 26th-30th) Back to School in Style: What is the best way to kick those end of summer blues? How about making your own Back-to-School supplies?! This week, we’ll be painting pencil cases, binding sketchbooks, making our own pencils and erasers, and of course, ending the week with our own painted backpacks to carry it all! ALMOST FULL!
